Flotilla 45, US Coast Guard Auxiliary, was chartered on 30 November 1974 at Braddock Bay Marina, located at Braddock Bay on Lake Ontario--NNW of Rochester, New York, in the Town of Greece. It was the first new flotilla added to the newly chartered Division 4. Charter members of the Flotilla were members of the Willows Yacht Club at Braddock Bay. Flotilla 45 is very active in teaching public education safe boating classes and providing free vessel safety checks to local boaters. Providing basic and advance boating courses, as well as our vessel inspection program help to educate and inform the public about boating safety and potentially avoid problems on the water.

Over the years, Flotilla 45 has been very active and has been recognized for its efforts. It was awarded the Annual Outstanding Flotilla Award several times. Several members, including currently active member, George Moore, have received the Annual Outstanding Auxiliarist Award. Mr. Moore also received the Coast Guard Award of Administrative Merit. In June, 1985, members of Flotilla 45, along with selected Auxiliarists from other Division 4 flotillas, received the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation for their work during the TALL SHIPS event on Lake Ontario, when Rochester was celebrating its 150th birthday. Current members who were on duty for that event are Robert Verstreet and George Moore. In 2002, Flotilla 45 received national recognition by winning the "Best of the Web" award for the best flotilla Web site. In 2004, the flotilla celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Throughout its history, Flotilla 45 has been active in the traditional "Four Cornerstones of the Auxiliary: Public Education, Vessel Examinations, Operations, and Fellowship." The Flotilla has earned recognition for outstanding contributions to boating safety from Boat/US, District 9ER and Division 4. Flotilla 45 has always been known as the "can do" Flotilla.
